God Has No Hands But Ours.
Each year hundreds of families, representing thousands of people, receive
direct assistance through Cumberland Good Samaritans. Direct Services includes the many ways that we provide direct aid to clients:
Guidelines are in place for those requesting assistance. Clients are
never given cash. After initial emergency services are rendered, any
additional assistance requires that clients must be evaluated through the
Social Services Department and must provide complete financial
documentation, which is verified, for accountability. Social Security cards
and proof of income and expenses are required. A computer database is used
for fast, accurate verification. Refusal to participate will terminate
eligibility for aid. We want to give a Hand Up, not just a Hand Out.
We coordinate with local area churches, businesses,
and other service organizations to maximize assistance and to prevent abuse
and duplication of services.
